THE BACK PACK

Our mission at Send'em Off Smiling is to improve the self-esteem of local children, whose attitudes to school are impacted by their visible need. It is gratifying to see the response of the children when backpacks are delivered. And no wonder... one look at our finished backpacks, and you can see the thoughtfulness and care of our Shop and Drop sponsors and our volunteer shoppers.

Each backpack includes a pair of sturdy, well-made pants (e.g. cargo pants, jeans, corduroys or twills), plus a warm, long-sleeve sweatshirt or sweater and a pair of well-made running shoes suitable for gym. We also include new underwear and socks, plus a selection of grade-appropriate school supplies.

As a Shop and Drop sponsor (either in a workplace or as an individual), you will be provided with a child profile outlining the appropriate sizes and style preferences of your child, plus a recommendation for school supplies (provided for us by teachers). Many of our Shop and Drop sponsors tell us that they feel very "connected" with the child they are shopping for.

We should note that your child profile is for a real child who will be excited to receive their supplies!
