WHO WE ARE

Now in our 10th year of operation, Send'em Off Smiling (SOS) is a local, grassroots charitable organization that serves children in the Waterloo Region. The charity grew from one mother's observation of children on the first day of school; not all children shared in the natural excitement of that special day. For children living in poverty -- with worn or ill-fitting clothing, no proper shoes or school supplies -- that first day of school can be a day of shame and embarrassment. And a pattern, teachers tell us, can be set for the year -- as these children struggle both socially and academically. Our goal is to blur the poverty line on that first day of school -- by linking donors and sponsors to the children in most need.
